Director of Engineering to join our leadership team at Elevation
Convening Center & Hotel in Montgomery, Alabama, overseeing a
99-Room purpose-driven luxury hotel.Job SummaryThe Director of
Engineering will oversee and manage maintenance operations for the
hotel, including tasks such as refrigeration, heating, plumbing,
electricity and more, while ensuring compliance with required
standards. They will lead their team to ensure each guest
encounters a world-class facility which, combined with luxury
service, will contribute to creating memorable guest experiences.
This position reports to the General Manager.Key
ResponsibilitiesOperational Oversight
- Supervise maintenance operations for the Hotel, including
refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water treatment, preventative
maintenance, guest rooms, A/H units, ice machines, swimming pool
and area, lighting, kitchen equipment, emergency generators, water
softeners, switch rooms, roof exhausts, electrical substations,
grease traps, trash compactors, etc.
- Oversee and direct landscaping service providers.
- Meets with architects to discuss blueprints, contacts
contractors to submit bids for new construction, and meets with
construction supervisors to discuss different phases of work.
- Develops and maintains an ongoing maintenance program.
- Provide instruction and/or guidance for guest and employee
safety in fire or other emergency situations.
- Monitor and ensure that the Engineering staff performs their
job functions to the hotel's expected level of service.
- Assist the Engineering Staff whenever necessary in performing
all job functions.
- Ensures all projects are completed according to specifications
and are completed on time.
- Aids and instructs craftsmen in scheduling work, ordering
material, and completing assignments by a specified date.
- Accommodate all guest requests in an accurate and efficient
manner and follow up within ten minutes.
- Assuming the duties and responsibilities of Manager on Duty
when assigned.Guest Satisfaction
- Regularly interact with team members and guests to ensure
expectations are met or exceeded.
- Address guest concerns promptly and effectively, ensuring high
satisfaction levels.
- Monitor and respond to guest reviews from personal
interactions, guest surveys and social media.
- Works closely with Executive Housekeeper and Front Office
Manager to ensure coordination of activities.Training & Development
- Conduct daily team huddles to communicate operational flows,
expectations, and updates.
- Organize monthly departmental meetings to discuss performance
and upcoming goals.
- Train and mentor engineering staff to deliver exceptional
service and achieve operational goals.Financial Management
- Oversee engineering and utilities budgets, ensuring alignment
with financial goals.
- Track and analyze revenue and expenses, identifying areas for
cost control and profit maximization.
- Monitor and maintain cleanliness and working conditions of
equipment and supplies.
- Ensure supplies are ordered with accurate usage factors and are
received in a timely manner.
- Ensure payroll forecasts are accurately completed and submitted
in a timely manner.
- Daily review, correction and evaluation of payroll hours from
previous day in order to reduce/eliminate possible overtime for
staff.Quality Assurance
- Establishes and maintains cost control systems for staffing,
cleaning supplies, maintenance parts, maintenance supplies
inventories, and purchasing programs.
- Ensures quality services are rendered in meeting guest needs
and that guest relations are enhanced.
- Monitor health and safety regulations, ensuring compliance with
local and hotel standards.
- Consistently seeks better ways of doing business (better
quality, less expensive, environmentally friendlier, faster
processes, etc.)Flexibility
- Be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on
event schedules.
- Adapt to last-minute changes or challenges during events,
ensuring smooth operations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.Software Knowledge
- Proficient in using KYC for hotel optimization.
- Utilize ADP for labor management and employee
relations.QualificationsExperience:
- Required to have previous Engineering/Maintenance management
experience.Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.Skills:
- High level of problem-solving.
- The ability to react quickly in emergency situations and make
decisions that may involve a great amount of money or the safety of
others.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other software
required to perform the job.Technical Knowledge:
- HVAC experience is required.Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of walking, standing, and sitting.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times.Working
Conditions:
- Fast-paced and dynamic environment requiring quick thinking and
adaptability.
- Must be able to work on your feet for long periods of
time.
- Fast paced movements are required to go from one part of the
hotel to another.
- Must be able to move, pull, carry, or lift at least 35
pounds.
- Occasionally kneel, bend, crouch and climb as required.
- Must be able to stand, walk, lift, bend and climb stairs for
long periods of time.
- Must be able to work in tight spaces, extremely cold and
